Our story
When old meets new
An eternal journey of a soul with passion and love for the Cretan land that raised him and taught him her secrets. Christos Vassalos, an oil and carob marketer from Melidoni, inspired people who today try to remind the guests of the village of his two great loves — showing that memory still exists, as long as they grow in Cretan soil.
At the village Melidoni one morning
Katerinio opened a restaurant
And she named it Carob and Olive
like her grandfather's job —
and she made the villagers really happy!

A Vibrant Summer in Rethymno
Summer in the Rethymno region is rich with events organised by the municipality and the Regional Administration of Crete: traditional village festivals (panigiria), open-air concerts on the village square, cultural evenings, harvest celebrations and living craft traditions. The village of Melidoni itself — with its famous cave and monastery — is a cultural highlight of the area.
